Restriction Digest Newsletter Restaurant Review or Event coverage Guidelines
You will be reimbursed a maximum of $30 for your restaurant review or a maximum of $40 for the event you are covering for the Restriction Digest (RD).
If you were to exceed the budget of $30/$40, you will only be reimbursed only $30 for the restaurant review and $40 for the event you are covering.
Please ensure you have the following items ready before claiming your reimbursement:
All items listed above (1-4) should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief or Lifestyle Editor of the Restriction Digest Editorial team. (Please, see restrictiondigest.weebly.com for Lifestyle editor’s email). The editor will then submit a reimbursement form to the GSA treasurer and Eric Lee in the Graduate student office (Suite 2-107 Building) for reimbursement. Failure to submit any of the required items will result in no reimbursement
Some tips on writing reviews:
We will not reimburse any transportation costs. However, we understand some events (even the free ones) require some travelling. Prior to covering the event, the reviewer should email the RD Lifestyle Editor to inform them about using part of the $40 for travel. Each case will be reviewed (pun intended) on a case-by-case basis. Transportation reimbursement pertains to event reviewers only. Restaurant reviewers will not be reimbursed for transport
THE RESTRICTION DIGEST TEAM HAS THE RIGHT TO DENY REIMBURSEMENT IF ANY ABUSE OF PRIVILEGES ARE FOUND/ OR IF THE CONDITIONS STIPULATED IN THIS GUIDELINES ARE NOT MET.

Some tips on writing reviews:
- If it’s a music venue or show, the reviewer should comment on the unique aspect of the event or restaurant (e.g. was the theater company and performance space enjoyable?)
- Was the food good at the music venue? Was the server fantastic/terrible?
- Try not to give a boring outline of what you ate or about a play or the specific band you saw.
- For restaurant reviews, please think of the types of places that your fellow graduate students can actually afford to eat when you do your review. Sure, $30 should be enough for an entree at the Brass Elephant but it does not serve to help your fellow school mates.
- Keep it creative! Please do not review commonly visited places on the JHMI campus e.g Taste of China, ABC sushi or North East Market. Please also do not review fast food or chain restaurant outlets also e.g Five Guys/Burger King/MacDonalds or Red Lobster/Cheesecake Factory etc.
- Feel free to email us questions if you have any!
